Eco
More and more people are looking at the impact that their lifestyle, and their holidays, have on the environment.
A great start is by cutting out flights and eco holidaying at home. Where better to start than Northumberland?
At Jack’s and Groom’s Cottages we aim to further minimise the impact on the environment of your holiday.
- Jack’s and Groom’s use a Ground Source Heat Pump to keep you warm and save energy.
- We only use eco energy saving lightbulbs, and in the parking area the lights are all solar powered.
- All toilet paper is from recycled sources.
- The bedding provided is all from a fair trade source and the towels provided all made of organic and unbleached materials.
- All bedding and towels are laundered using environmentally friendly detergents.
- Wherever possible we have furnished Jack’s and Groom’s with antique or renewable wood furniture.
- Full insulation and thick stone walls lead to minimal heat loss.
- We use a Green Energy provider to power the cottages.
- We are part of the local council’s kerbside recycling scheme (see Recycling in Berwick-upon-Tweed) and also provide a glass recycling bin.
- Most of the appliances provided are A-rated to be energy efficient.
- We have sourced many of our products from The Green Shop in Berwick-upon-Tweed, and continue to use this fabulous local resource. Call by for a vast array of totally organic food, fresh fruit and veg, and fair trade gifts
